How to Use This Pressurised Pond Filter
The Jebao CBF 6000 operates through a sophisticated three-stage filtration process to ensure optimal pond health and clarity. Proper setup and operation are crucial for best results.
- Installation: Connect your pond pump to the filter inlet. Ensure the outlet hosetails are cut to the appropriate size (20/25/32/40mm) and directed back to your pond or to a waterfall. The filter can be partially buried up to its lid for concealment.
- Mechanical Filtration (Stage 1): Water from the pond is first passed through two different grades of sponge media, which physically trap larger particulate matter and debris, preventing clogging and preparing the water for subsequent stages.
- Biological Filtration (Stage 2): The sponge media also provides a large surface area for beneficial bacteria to colonise. These bacteria break down harmful ammonia and nitrites into less toxic nitrates, completing the nitrogen cycle. Note: This CBF-6000 model does not come with bio balls; biological filtration is supported by the included sponges.
- UV Clarification (Stage 3): Before returning to the pond, water passes through the integrated 9W UV lamp with quartz glass. The UV light effectively kills floating green water algae cells, preventing unsightly blooms and ensuring crystal-clear water.
- Water Return: Clean, clear water exits the filter under pressure, making it suitable for feeding waterfalls or returning water uphill.
Easy-Clean Back-Flush Procedure
The integrated back-flush system makes cleaning the CBF 6000 quick and hassle-free:
- Preparation: When the cleaning indicator turns red, it signifies that maintenance is required. Shut off the pump connected to the filter.
- Select Cleaning Mode: Turn the top knob or switch on the filter to the “Cleaning” position.
- Initiate Back-Flush: Turn the pond pump back on.
- Clean Filter Media: Pull and push the cleaning handle repeatedly. This action flushes the foam filters and UVC unit.
- Monitor Discharge: Continue the back-flush process until clean water appears from the waste outlet.
- Resume Filtration: Once clean, shut off the pump again and switch the knob back to the “Filter” position. Turn the pump back on to resume normal filtration.
- Waste Water Tip: The dirty water discharged during back-flushing is rich in nutrients; consider using it to fertilize garden plants.
Care & Maintenance Tips
- Regularly check the cleaning/maintenance indicator and perform the back-flush procedure when it turns red to ensure optimal filter performance.
- Ensure the UV lamp is functioning correctly. UV bulbs typically need replacement annually (refer to manufacturer guidelines) to maintain effective algae control.
- Inspect the hose connections periodically for any leaks or blockages, ensuring a smooth flow of water through the system.
- When performing deep cleaning beyond the back-flush system, gently rinse the sponge media in old pond water to preserve beneficial bacterial colonies. Avoid using tap water as chlorine can harm these bacteria.
- Ensure the quartz glass sleeve protecting the UV lamp is clean and free from build-up to allow maximum UV penetration.
- Position the filter in a location that allows easy access for maintenance, even if partially buried.
- For ponds exposed to full sun or heavy fish loads, consider selecting a filter with a higher capacity than your actual pond volume to compensate for increased biological and algal load.
